When I meet with a client to look at their project, I still get excited every time! Every individual, home or retail property is different. I listen to the other person's ideas and thoughts , and then I proceed to work and make suggestions from their perspective.
As soon as I step on the property, I can visualize the finished landscape in my head. This is a combined vision of what I would like to see happen on the project and the customer's dream or goal. I put together some sketches for the follow-up meeting to give them ideas that they may not have thought of.
During this initial meeting, we walk the property to discuss the possibilities and realities ... adding some items and removing others. There are so many different mediums in hardscape and plant designs. Getting a full understanding of the clients' tastes is essential to putting together a beautiful landscape that fits their lifestyle.
I spend a lot of time taking in the natural beauty of the landscape, seeking to accent that in my design. My goal is to bring in the functionality that the client seeks, while enhancing what nature has already provided. My wife, Kim, really helps support the process, taking your calls and emails and handling most of the back-office administration.
It is so rewarding to finish a project and to experience my clients' excitement. We typically share a deep sense of accomplishment, knowing that together we created something special.
